Bangladeshi student Nahida Bristy, missing since April 16 in the United States, has died, according to a claim made by her brother Zahid Hasan Pranto in a Facebook post on Saturday.
Zahid wrote: “My sister is no longer with us. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.”
Local police authorities have not yet commented on Bristy’s death.
Times of Bangladesh has not been able to independently verify the claim.
Bristy, a former student of the 13th batch in the Department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Noakhali Science and Technology University, was pursuing a PhD in chemical engineering at the University of South Florida (USF).
Earlier, Hillsborough County police in Florida recovered the body of another missing Bangladeshi PhD student, Zamil Ahmed Limon, 27.
His roommate, Hisham Saleh Abugharbeih, 26, was taken into custody in connection with the case. Limon had been pursuing doctoral studies in geography, environmental science and policy at USF.
Police said Limon was last seen at his off‑campus residence at 9am on 16 April. Bristy was last seen an hour later, around 10am, at the university’s Natural and Environmental Sciences building. When friends were unable to contact either of them, they alerted police, prompting an investigation.
On Friday morning, police recovered Limon’s body from a bridge over Tampa Bay.
