Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor ABM Obaidul Islam visited injured students at various hospitals on Thursday night following a clash inside Shahbag Police Station.
The Vice-Chancellor went to the Shaheed Buddhijibi Mohammed Mortaza Medical Centre and Dhaka Medical College Hospital to enquire about the physical condition of the injured, including Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) leaders AB Zubayer and Musaddiq Ali Ibne Mohammad.
During the visit, Professor Obaidul Islam spoke with the injured students and the attending physicians to oversee the overall status of their medical care. He provided necessary instructions to the relevant authorities and expressed his hopes for the students’ speedy recovery.
He was accompanied by Proctor Professor Saifuddin Ahmad and members of the proctorial team.
According to reports, the incident occurred when activists of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal went to Shahbag Police Station on Thursday evening to lodge a complaint regarding alleged “derogatory remarks” made against Zaima Rahman.
While at the station, the Chhatra Dal activists reportedly chanted various “anti-Shibir” slogans. A clash subsequently erupted when DUCSU leaders Zubayer and Musaddiq, along with several activists of the Islami Chhatra Shibir, entered the police station.
It is alleged that the Chhatra Dal activists beat the students, forcing them to take shelter inside the station as the situation spiralled out of control.
