BNP has nominated Suborna Shikder Thakur, a former Awami League leader from Kashiani upazila in Gopalganj, as a candidate for a reserved women’s seat in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.

Suborna Sikdar was elected as the Awami League’s upazila‑level secretary for forest and environment affairs in 2023.

Although she sought nomination for a reserved women’s seat from the Awami League, whose activities are currently banned, after the 2024 national election and failed, she has now secured BNP’s nomination in 2026.

Speaking to Times of Bangladesh, Suborna said her name had been included in the Awami League committee without her consent.

When asked about collecting nomination forms from the Awami League in 2024, she declined to comment.

Suborna, who identifies herself as chief adviser of the Matua Oikya Jote, said she inaugurated the National Hindu Alliance conference at the Krishibid Institute in Dhaka on 7 November 2025, where BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman joined virtually.
