Indian High Commission Dhaka High Commissioner Pranay Verma has said deep cultural affinity between Bangladesh and India continues to strengthen bilateral ties.
The High Commission of India and Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) marked the 77th founding anniversary of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) as ICCR Day on Friday at the IGCC premises in Gulshan, the mission said in a press release.
Speaking at the event, the High Commissioner highlighted the role of ICCR in fostering cultural dialogue between the two countries.
He described ICCR as the “cultural heartbeat” of Indian diplomacy, promoting exchanges that transcend borders.
The programme featured an art camp by ICCR alumni and senior Bangladeshi artists, alongside cultural performances including music, dance, and yoga by IGCC students and ICCR alumni.
Dhaka University singer and ICCR scholar Priyanka Gope performed Rabindra Sangeet and classical songs.
The High Commissioner also inaugurated a two-day art camp titled “Sampriti,” hosted by IGCC, bringing together more than 30 artists and ICCR scholars from Bangladesh.
Notable participants included Farida Zaman, Jamal Ahmed, Md Eunus, Nissar Hossain, and Ranjit Das.
The artworks created during the camp will be exhibited in a two-week public exhibition at IGCC from April 30, the press release said.
During the event, he paid tribute to Bangladeshi senior artist and ICCR scholar Tarun Ghosh, who had planned to join the camp but died on April 9.
