A man was electrocuted while allegedly attempting to steal electric wires from a house in the capital’s Kalabagan area early Sunday.
The name of the deceased could not be known immediately. He was around 30, said Iqbal Hossain, sub-inspector (SI) of Kalabagan Police Station.
The incident occurred around 6am on the north road in Bhuter Goli of Kalabagan.
SI Iqbal said efforts are underway to identify the deceased. The body has been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.
According to the police, the man climbed onto the roof by scaling the building’s grill with the intention of stealing electric cables. He cut several wires and gathered them together. While attempting to cut another wire, he was electrocuted and fell from the roof.
Locals, with the assistance of police, took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
