Police have detained 19 people following a clash between two rival BNP factions in Pabna’s Ishwardi, though no case has yet been filed over Monday’s violence.

Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mominuzzaman told reporters on Tuesday afternoon that they are still awaiting a formal complaint.

“Once an FIR is filed, the case will be recorded. For now, 19 individuals have been held for interrogation to determine their involvement in the violence,” he said.

The clashes erupted at the Rail Gate and Post Office intersection between supporters of district BNP convener Habibur Rahman Habib and former upazila Swechchhasebak Dal member secretary Mehedi Hasan, younger brother of BNP rebel candidate Zakaria Pintu.

During the unrest, Habib’s election office was vandalised, 15 motorcycles were damaged and six set ablaze. At least 30 people, including police officers, were injured and admitted to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex and other hospitals.
