Vaibhav Suryavanshi has set his eyes on one big target in the IPL. The young batter says he wants to break the record of 175 runs in an innings held by Chris Gayle.
At the BCCI annual awards ceremony in Delhi on March 15, Suryavanshi spoke to Harsha Bhogle. He was asked which record he would like to achieve. The options included the fastest IPL century, six sixes in an over, or the highest IPL score.
Suryavanshi gave a clear answer. “I want that record of 175 runs,” he said.
Gayle set the record in IPL 2013 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Pune Warriors India. He scored 175 not out from 66 balls. It remains the highest individual score in men’s T20 cricket. Aaron Finch’s 172 for Australia against Zimbabwe in 2018 is the next best.
He already has some big numbers of his own. His best score is 144. He made it for India A against the UAE in the Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament in late 2025. He has three T20 centuries in just 18 innings.
He also holds the second fastest century in IPL history. He reached his hundred in 35 balls for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025. Gayle still holds the fastest IPL hundred, which came in 30 balls during that famous 175-run knock.
Suryavanshi is not yet 15. But he has already built a strong record in age group and representative cricket. Rajasthan Royals also retained him before IPL 2026.
Despite the records, the youngster says team success matters most.
“The goal for IPL 2026 is to win the trophy for the team because that’s the most important thing,” he said. “If the team wins the trophy, it will mean that I would have performed, and the team will benefit from that. So that’s the goal: contribute to my team’s victories and win the trophy.”
