National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Organiser (Northern Region) Sarjis Alam has accused the BNP of violating the “July Charter” at the start of the new Jatiya Sangsad.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists on Thursday afternoon at the open stage of Panchagarh Government Auditorium.

“The BNP has not sent a good message to the people of Bangladesh,” he said.

He said the July Charter states that although the speaker would come from the ruling party, the deputy speaker should be from the opposition.

“But the deputy speaker’s post has been given to Barrister Kayser Kamal, who is a BNP-supported member of parliament,” he said.

Sarjis also criticised the swearing-in of the speaker and deputy speaker.

“Both were sworn in by the president of the previous fascist government,” he said.

He said the new BNP-led government has begun its activities by following the “autocratic tail” of the previous regime despite the limitations faced during the interim period.

Earlier, prizes including laptops, bicycles, crests and certificates were distributed among winners of a merit scholarship examination organised by Kishorkantho Foundation for students from classes four to ten in Panchagarh.

Among others present were Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir Central Education Secretary and Kishorkantho Pathak Forum Adviser Mohammad Ibrahim, Panchagarh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Iqbal Hossain, and Panchagarh district Kishorkantho Foundation and Chhatra Shibir Chairman Rashed Islam.
