Electricity, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku on Sunday assured there are currently no plans to increase electricity prices.
Speaking to journalists at the Secretariat on Sunday, March 8, the Minister stated that relevant authorities have been directed to ensure a stable power supply during Iftar, Tarabi, and Sehri throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
Addressing the nation’s fuel security, Tuku noted that an oil-laden ship arrived at 11am today, with a second vessel expected to arrive later in the day. Additionally, eight ships carrying Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) have reached Chattogram Port.
Port Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim confirmed reporters that these eight fuel-laden vessels anchored on Sunday morning. According to port authorities, the ships had successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz before 28 February, prior to the outbreak of war in the Middle East.
Despite the arrival of these supplies, the government is moving to manage what has been described as an artificial fuel crisis by rationing oil deliveries to distributors.
While marketing companies and the government maintain there is no genuine shortage, the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) imposed a limit on oil sales last Friday due to concerns over potential global supply disruptions.
Although the government continues to reassure the public that fuel stocks are sufficient, anxiety among the general population persists.
