A Bhol fish weighing nearly 200 kilograms was caught in fishing nets in the western sea off St Martin’s Island in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar.
The fish was brought to Kayukkhali boat terminal under Teknaf municipality on Thursday afternoon.
Fish trader Sirajul Islam said the fish was bought and preserved with ice at Al Galib Fishing Fishery.
“I and Jafar bought the fish for about Tk2,60,000 including expenses, and the fish may weigh more than 200 kilograms,” he said.
He said a fishing trawler owned by Md Russel left Teknaf boat terminal for the sea on Tuesday.
The large Bhol fish was later caught in a surrounding net in the Bay of Bengal south of St Martin’s Island.
Sirajul Islam said the fish will be cut and sold at a fish market beside Teknaf Pilot High School field after Friday’s Jumma prayers, and the price will be fixed according to the market rate.
He added that they had sold a similar large Bhol fish during Ramadan last year.
Trawler owner Md Russel said the trawler reached the boat terminal on Thursday afternoon and the fish was sold to local traders Jafar and Siraj.
