Bangladesh’s U-16 boys’ basketball team secured the bronze medal at the South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) U-16 Championship with a convincing 75-42 win over hosts Maldives in the third-place play-off held today in Malé.

The victory came as a morale-boosting finish for the boys, who had earlier defeated Maldives in the group stage as well. Leading the charge was San Mrong with an impressive 24-point haul, while Afridi added a strong 16 points to the tally.

The tournament featured four South Asian nations—Maldives, Bangladesh, India, and Sri Lanka—competing in both boys’ and girls’ categories. Bangladesh’s girls’ team, however, endured a tough campaign, finishing fourth after a heavy 86-22 defeat in their bronze-medal match, concluding the tournament without a win.

While the girls’ team faced a challenging run, the boys managed to salvage pride with their dominant performance against the hosts, returning home with a well-earned bronze medal.
