Three members of a family, including a couple and their son, sustained critical burn injuries after a fire broke out at a tin-shed house in Mitra area of Manikganj Sadar upazila on Wednesday afternoon.
The victims have been admitted to the Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The victims were identified as Shamshul Biswas, 65, his wife Mafiara Begum, 60, and their son Joni Biswas, 25.
The incident occurred around 1:30 pm.
Masud Biswas, the family’s eldest son, said he heard screams from his parents’ room and rushed in to find it ablaze.
“The fire blocked the door, preventing them from escaping. I went in and managed to pull all three out, but they suffered severe burns,” he said.
Masud himself sustained minor injuries while rescuing his family.
Joni Biswas told reporters that he had been pressing his clothes with a faulty iron when the fire started.
“The flames quickly spread to the clothes, bedding, and other items in the room. My parents and I got trapped inside,” he said.
Relatives noted that Joni is currently unemployed and had been preparing to go abroad.
Doctors at the burn unit reported that all three victims sustained burns on their hands, face, chest, back, and legs.
Their condition remains critical, and they are receiving intensive treatment.
