The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on Saturday extended congratulations to BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman on the party’s landslide victory in the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
In a message, BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan said the Bangladesh Nationalist Party secured more than a two-thirds majority under the leadership of Tarique Rahman.
“On behalf of BGMEA, I convey our sincere congratulations to you and to leaders and activists of all levels of the party for this sweeping victory,” the message said.
The association said the electoral mandate reflected public expectations of democratic continuity and efforts to build a prosperous and equitable Bangladesh, describing the result as a milestone in the country’s democratic process.
Mahmud Hasan Khan expressed confidence that the leadership of Tarique Rahman would help strengthen Bangladesh’s position as an economic force globally.
Referring to the ready-made garment sector as a key pillar of the economy, BGMEA said the industry stands at a critical stage of its development.
It stressed the need for policy support and a business-friendly environment to address challenges arising from Bangladesh’s graduation from the least developed country category, ensure uninterrupted energy supply and maintain competitiveness in the global apparel market.
“The RMG sector is facing multifaceted global challenges following Bangladesh’s graduation from the LDC category. Ensuring sustainable growth will require pragmatic policy measures, stable energy supply and strategic trade support,” the message said.
BGMEA expressed optimism that with government support, the sector would be able to achieve its target of increasing garment exports to $100 billion by 2030.
It also said the “Made in Bangladesh” brand could further strengthen its global standing under the new leadership.
The association congratulated BGMEA members elected as Members of Parliament, saying their participation in the Jatiya Sangsad would help address sectoral challenges and support economic stability.
BGMEA said it expects the new government to establish a stable and robust economic framework to enable investors to operate with confidence and support economic progress.
The message concluded with wishes for good health and continued success for Tarique Rahman in leading the country.
