Fans around the world will learn on Thursday whether they have secured tickets for the 2026 World Cup, as Fifa begins notifying applicants of the outcome of its first ticket sales phase with 126 days remaining before the tournament opens in Mexico City.
Fifa said applicants would be informed by email on February 5 whether their requests were successful, partially successful or unsuccessful, following the completion of the random selection draw for applications submitted between December 11, 2025 and January 13, 2026.
For successful applicants, the ticket price will be automatically deducted from the account provided at the time of application. A partially successful application means tickets have been allocated for at least one of the requested matches, though not for all of them.
The scale of demand has been vast. According to Fifa, around 500 million ticket applications were received during the 33-day sales window, an average of approximately 15 million per day, with applications coming from all 211 member associations.
The highest number of requests came from the three host nations, Mexico, the United States and Canada. Outside the hosts, the strongest demand was recorded from Germany, England, Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Argentina and Colombia.
The most in-demand match of the group stage is Colombia versus Portugal on June 27 in Miami. Mexico’s opening match against South Africa on June 6 at the Azteca Stadium and their group game against South Korea in Guadalajara on June 18 are also among the most requested fixtures.
Fifa has stressed that fans who miss out at this stage will have another opportunity. A “last-minute sales phase” will open closer to the start of the tournament and remain available until the final, with tickets sold on a first-come, first-served basis. A resale and exchange marketplace will also be available for eligible ticket holders.
The 2026 World Cup will begin on June 11 in Mexico City and conclude with the final in New York City on July 19, with group-stage matches running until June 28.
