Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) hosted a teachers’ evening programme last Saturday, bringing together faculty members and their families in a celebration focused on professional bonds and academic excellence.
The event, organised by the Gazipur Agricultural University Teachers’ Association, was held at the Begum Sufia Kamal Auditorium on the university campus in Gazipur and opened with a traditional Poush–Magh pitha festival, creating a festive winter setting for the gathering.
A formal discussion session followed, with Gazipur Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor Professor GKM Mustafizur Rahman attending as the chief guest. Gazipur Agricultural University Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor M Moynul Haque and Treasurer Professor Md Safiul Islam Afrad were present as special guests.
The session was presided over by Gazipur Agricultural University Teachers’ Association Immediate Past President Professor Md Abu Ashraf Khan, while the welcome address was delivered by Immediate Past General Secretary Professor Md Moshiul Islam.
During the programme, the vice-chancellor honoured recently retired faculty members with commemorative crests, acknowledging their long-standing contributions to teaching, research and institutional development at the university.
Faculty members who demonstrated outstanding research performance in 2023 and 2024 were also recognised with crests and certificates for their scholarly achievements. Members of the 2025 Teachers’ Association received formal recognition, while the newly elected 2026 Teachers’ Association leadership was welcomed with floral greetings from the vice-chancellor and other distinguished guests.
In his address, Vice-Chancellor Professor GKM Mustafizur Rahman said the foundation of a university’s strength lies in its teachers, noting that institutional progress and dignity are built on their dedication, research excellence and commitment to human values. He said the university’s continued national and international progress, including recognition in global rankings, reflected the academic legacy established by senior and retired faculty members.
He also expressed confidence in the newly elected Teachers’ Association leadership and stressed the importance of unity and collective effort in advancing the institution.
The formal segment concluded with closing remarks from the president of the Teachers’ Association. The evening then transitioned into a cultural programme featuring music and recitations performed by teachers and their family members.
The programme concluded with a gala dinner, marking the end of a day that reflected the spirit of solidarity, professional respect and community within the Gazipur Agricultural University academic circle.
