BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman participated in a ceremony to pay respects at his younger brother’s grave, offer prayers, and place floral wreaths on the occasion of the 11th death anniversary of Arafat Rahman Koko, the younger son of BNP founder, the former president Ziaur Rahman, and former prime minister Khaleda Zia.
On Saturday afternoon, he visited Koko’s grave at the Banani Graveyard along with central and metropolitan BNP leaders.
Arafat Rahman Koko passed away in Malaysia on 24 January 2015, while undergoing treatment. Later, his body was brought to the country and he was laid to rest at Banani Graveyard.
It is noteworthy that during the 1/11 period, on 3 September 2007, from the residence on Mainul Road in Dhaka Cantonment, along with then BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, her youngest son Arafat Rahman Koko was also arrested.
He was released on bail on 17 July 2008 and went to Thailand for treatment. From there, he moved to Malaysia. Koko had to stay there until his death, separated from his mother Khaleda Zia and elder brother Tarique Rahman.
Arafat Rahman Koko was born on 12 August 1969. He was a member of the advisory council of the Bangladesh Cricket Board from 2003 to 2005. He was also the Chairman of the Old DOHS Club.
