Bangladesh begins Eid-ul-Adha celebrations today, one of the largest religious festivals for the Muslim community, with nationwide preparations complete and a festive atmosphere prevailing everywhere.

On Friday, the day before Eid, last-minute preparations were underway across the capital Dhaka and throughout the country. People were busy purchasing items for cutting and preserving sacrificial meat, cleaning their homes, and preparing spices. While crowds were seen at vegetable markets, spice shops, and butcher equipment stores, shopping malls and markets were practically empty of customers.

People have left major cities, including the capital, to head to their village homes, eager to celebrate Eid with their families. Alongside adults, children were seen engaged in various festive preparations. In homes where sacrificial animals have been purchased, children were visibly excited, spending time feeding and caring for the animals.

Following government directives, Eid prayers were held at every mosque and Eidgah across the country while maintaining health protocols. The main Eid congregation in the capital took place place at the National Eidgah at 7:30 AM, with Baitul Mukarram National Mosque serving as the alternative venue in case of inclement weather.

Police, RAB, and other law enforcement agencies made special arrangements to ensure security during Eid prayers and throughout the country.

This year, the main Eid-ul-Adha congregation was again held at the National Eidgah grounds at 7:30am, led by Baitul Mukarram National Mosque’s Khatib Mufti Muhammad Abdul Malek.

Meanwhile, Baitul Mukarram has scheduled five Eid congregations, starting at 7:00 AM and concluding with the final prayer at 10:45am.

At Dhaka University, two main congregations were held at the central mosque at 7:30am and 8:30am, with additional prayers organised by residential halls between 7:00am and 8:00am.

The country’s largest Eid congregation was held at Kishoreganj’s Sholakia at 9:00am, while Dinajpur’s Gor-e-Shahid Maidan also hosted prayers attended by hundreds of thousands.
