Students of seven colleges have blocked key roads in Dhaka demanding the issuance of an ordinance for the proposed Dhaka Central University.
The students blocked the Science Lab, Tatibazar and Technical intersections for the second consecutive day on Thursday. Traffic movement came to a halt due to the blockades.
Meanwhile, a Dhaka University vehicle was vandalised at Science Lab, after which a scuffle broke out between the DU students and seven college students.
The blockades were enforced as part of their pre-announced programme declared on Wednesday.
After 12pm, students from Kabi Nazrul Government College and Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College were seen gathering in the Bahadur Shah Park area. They said they would block the Tatibazar intersection and later march towards the Science Lab intersection.
Earlier on Wednesday, in line with their prior programme, students from the seven government colleges blocked the Science Lab, Technical intersection, and Tatibazar intersection around 12 pm to press home their one-point demand for the issuance of the ordinance.
The blockade caused severe disruption to traffic and commuters in the capital. After about eight hours, the demonstrators suspended the Science Lab blockade and announced fresh programmes.
The seven government colleges are Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Mohila College, Government Bangla College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Government Titumir College, and Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College.
