The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has named a 16-man squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, which will also serve as the Tigers’ opening salvo in the 2025–2027 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.

The series is set to begin on 17 June in Galle, with the second and final Test slated for 25 June in Colombo. The Bangladesh squad will leave for Sri Lanka on 13 June.

Top-order batter Najmul Hossain Shanto continues as Bangladesh’s Test captain, a role he first took on in 2024. All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz also retains the vice-captaincy, ensuring continuity in leadership as the team embarks on a new WTC campaign.

The squad features a blend of experience and youth. Senior players such as Mushfiqur Rahim, Mominul Haque Showrab, and Litton Kumer Das will be expected to anchor the batting unit, while young talents like Mahidul Islam Bhuiyan and Jaker Ali Anik have been included to inject fresh energy.

On the bowling front, spinners Taijul Islam, Nayeem Hasan, and Hasan Murad offer variety and depth, while the pace department is bolstered by the likes of Ebadot Hossain Chowdhury, Hasan Mahmud, Nahid Rana, and Syed Khaled Ahmed.

Bangladesh will be hoping for a strong start to their WTC campaign under Shanto’s leadership, aiming to build on the foundation laid in the previous cycle. The two Tests in Sri Lanka will not only test their mettle on subcontinental pitches but also provide a crucial early opportunity to earn points in the new WTC standings.
