Bangladesh Bank has released new banknotes of Tk 1,000, Tk 50, and Tk 20 denominations with fresh designs and series, ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha festival. The new notes were officially introduced on Monday.
According to the central bank, the updated designs focus on themes related to the emotional spirit of the July uprising and our historic and archaeological heritage. Notably, the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has been excluded from these new notes.
Bangladesh Bank has printed the new designs for all denominations—Tk 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, and 1,000—under the series titled ” Historic and Archaeological Architecture of Bangladesh.” The new notes bear the signature of Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur. They are initially being distributed from the central bank’s Motijheel office.
The central bank has confirmed that all existing paper notes and coins will remain in circulation alongside the newly issued ones.
To meet the interests of currency collectors, non-exchangeable sample notes of Tk 1,000, 50, and 20 have also been printed. These can be purchased at fixed prices from the Taka Museum in Mirpur, Dhaka.
