Prospective independent candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency and spokesperson of Inquilab Mancha Sharif Osman Hadi, who was shot in the capital’s Bijoynagar area, is currently on life support.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) Director Brig Gen Md Asaduzzaman confirmed the matter in a media statement on Friday.
He told reporters, “Hadi has a bullet lodged in his head. His condition is critical, and he is currently on life support. We are doing everything we can for him.”
Dr Mostak Ahmed, a physician at the hospital’s emergency department, stated, “When Hadi was brought to the emergency department, his condition was critical. He was given CPR, and the bullet is lodged in his head and near his ear.”

Earlier, around 2:20pm, miscreants opened fire on Hadi in the Box Culvert area of Bijoynagar, Dhaka.
Misbah, who brought Osman Hadi to the hospital, said, “After performing Juma prayers, while on a rickshaw near the Bijoynagar culvert area, two motorcyclists came and shot at him. The bullet hit him just below his left ear, and they fled after shooting him.
“He was then taken to the hospital by rickshaw.”
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (Media) Muhammad Talebur Rahman told reporters, “We have not yet gathered all the details, but initially, we have learned that he was on a rickshaw when the motorcyclists shot him.”
Hadi had received death threats
Last November, Osman Hadi reported receiving multiple threats from 30 local and international numbers. On 14 November, he posted on Facebook that he had been threatened with murder, arson at his house, and sexual violence against his mother, sister, and wife.
In his post, Osman Hadi wrote, “In the last three hours, I’ve received calls and texts from at least 30 foreign numbers from the killers of the Awami League. The threats include constant surveillance on me, burning my house, raping my mother, sister, and wife, and killing me.”
