The number of bank customers with deposits above Tk1 crore increased by 734 between June and September. Bangladesh Bank’s latest report confirms the rise.
The banking sector had 16.90 crore accounts at the end of June. The total stood at 17.45 crore by the end of September. Customers opened 55.94 lakh new accounts during these three months.
Deposits increased during the same period. The banking sector held Tk19,96,583 crore at the end of June. The amount reached Tk 20,31,119 crore by September, showing a rise of Tk 34,536 crore.
The number of accounts with deposits above Tk 1 crore also went up. The total stood at 1,27,336 at the end of June. It reached 1,28,070 by September. The number therefore increased by 734 accounts in three months. In March, the figure was 1,21,362.
However, total deposits in crorepati accounts declined. These accounts held Tk8,80,772 crore at the end of June. By September, the amount fell to Tk 8,21,562 crore. Deposits in these large accounts therefore dropped by Tk 59,209 crore within three months.
