The Election Commission (EC) is preparing to grant official registration to two additional political parties, Janatar Dal and Amjanatar Dal, after a reinvestigation found their organisational presence.
EC Senior Secretary Akhter Ahmed confirmed the development on Thursday during a workshop at the Election Training Institute in Agargaon, Dhaka.
According to the senior secretary, the commission recently reviewed the activities of several applicant parties.
“The reinvestigation found that both Janatar Dal and Amjanatar Dal have active organisational structures at district and upazila levels. As they have fulfilled the necessary requirements, the EC has taken a policy decision to grant them registration,” he said.
He added that the commission will issue a public notice to invite objections, if any, regarding the parties’ registration. The notice will be published in newspapers on Friday, with the deadline for submitting objections set for 9 December.
Janatar Dal is headed by Convenor Chairman Brigadier General (Retd) Shamim Kamal, with Azam Khan serving as member secretary and Major (Retd) Del H Khan acting as spokesperson and chief coordinator.
Amjanatar Dal’s member secretary, Md Tarek Rahman, previously demonstrated in support of the party’s registration by staging a 134-hour hunger strike in front of the EC headquarters.
