Athletic tried to push forward after the interval. Courtois stayed alert and turned away a powerful shot from Mikel Jauregizar. Madrid then suffered a setback when Alexander-Arnold left the pitch with what looked like a muscle problem. Camavinga later followed with an injury concern of his own.
Even then, Madrid did not lose rhythm. Mbappé scored again with a firm shot from outside the box in the 59th minute. The ball slipped inside the near post. Simon reacted late and could not keep it out. The goal sealed the win and highlighted Mbappé’s current form.
Real Madrid played with freedom for the rest of the match. Vinícius left the field with a smile and shared a warm moment with coach Xabi Alonso. The team looked united and confident after a difficult spell.
Alonso praised Mbappé after the match. He said that the forward is in a “great moment” and that he enjoys watching the connection between Mbappé and Vinícius. Courtois also praised Mbappé. He said he feels lucky to have the French star on his side because “he is unstoppable.”
Madrid now sit one point behind Barcelona and remain firmly in the title race. The win in Bilbao may become a key moment in their season.
