BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed has alleged that he was forcibly disappeared under the previous Awami League government in an attempt to kill him.
Speaking at a roadside rally in Dhanialkata of Toitong on Wednesday, following an election campaign in Barbakia and Shilkhali unions, Salahuddin claimed, “I was abducted with the intention of being killed. I survived only by the grace of Allah. The people prayed, and today democracy has prevailed in this country.”
He also said the recent political change had brought an end to “fascism,” and asserted that those responsible for past enforced disappearances and killings would be brought to justice.
Salahuddin’s wife, former lawmaker Advocate Hasina Ahmed, along with Pekua Upazila BNP President Bahadur Shah, General Secretary Iqbal Hossain, and Toitong Union BNP President Master Zainal Abedin, were present at the gathering.
After the rally, Salahuddin continued his campaign for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, urging voters to support the BNP’s election symbol, the paddy sheaf.
