The testimony in the case filed over the killing of a cat named Mansur in the Mohammadpur area of the capital against accused Akbar Hossain Shiblu, a resident of the same area, has concluded.
On Tuesday, a person named Ejaz Hossain Marwan gave testimony in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ashraful Haque. After concluding the testimony, the court scheduled 12 January for the defence.
Regarding this matter, the plaintiff’s lawyer Zakir Hossain said that the testimony phase of the case has ended.
“During the trial, the court concluded testimonies from four individuals. January 12 has been scheduled for the defense,” he said.
Earlier, on 5 February of this year, the application for the case was filed in the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court by Nafisa Nowrin Chowdhury on behalf of People for Animal Welfare. On that day, the court recorded the plaintiff’s statement and ordered the Mohammadpur Thana Police to investigate the allegations and submit a report.
Subsequently, the Mohammadpur Thana Police submitted a report stating that the allegations brought against the accused Akbar Hossain have been proven true. Later, on 14 July, the court ordered the commencement of the trial by framing charges against the accused.
The allegations in the case state that on 1 February, around noon, a cat named Mansur from the 9th floor of the Muktijoddha Tower in Mohammadpur went missing. Later, CCTV footage from the building showed the accused Akbar Hossain Shiblu kicking the cat randomly.
Even after the cat’s lifeless body lay on the ground from his kicks, he confirmed its death by poking it with his foot.
