BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has said BNP-led government would ensure transparency and accountability across all sectors, calling it essential for building a better future for Bangladesh.

Speaking at a discussion marking the 25th anniversary of Popular Life Insurance Company, held on Wednesday at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) in Dhaka’s Kakrail, Khosru sharply criticised the previous government for what he described as extensive political interference in the banking and insurance sectors.

Khosru claimed that more than 20 insurance companies are currently unable to pay policyholders, leaving families in financial distress.

“People purchase insurance to safeguard their family’s future. But due to corruption and widespread mismanagement, many are being denied the returns they are owed,” he said.

He vowed that a BNP government would not allow “looting” in either the banking or insurance industries and would undertake major reforms to restore public confidence.

“Accountability must be ensured for everyone if we are to build a future-ready Bangladesh,” he added.

Khosru also questioned the necessity of the large number of insurance companies operating in the country, alleging that many were approved by the previous government on political grounds rather than market requirements.
