The interim government is actively considering the introduction of a dearness allowance for public sector employees in the upcoming national budget, said Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters following a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase at the Secretariat, Salehuddin said a committee has already been formed to review the issue and is currently working on the details.

However, he did not specify what percentage or structure the allowance might follow.

“We are actively looking into the matter,” he said. Accordingly, discussions are ongoing and any final decision will be reflected in the upcoming budget.

Meanwhile, when asked about the government’s stance on India’s recent import restrictions, the adviser noted that a meeting on the matter is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon. “I won’t comment on this right now,” he told journalists.

Additionally, regarding the recent developments surrounding the dissolution of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), the finance adviser refrained from making any remarks.

The finance ministry would issue a press release in this regard, he added.
