In a major reshuffle ahead of the announcement of the 13th national election schedule, the government has reassigned officers-in-charge (OCs) at 527 police stations across the country through a lottery-based selection process.
According to officials, the measure is intended to ensure neutrality, transparency and effective law-enforcement during the election period. Prior to the lottery, unit chiefs were instructed to submit lists of honest and impartial inspectors, from which the final selections were made.
The reassignment covers 527 police stations nationwide, excluding all metropolitan areas. The newly selected OCs have been listed in a “proposed” roster pending final approval.
The 527 reassignments span all eight police ranges.
Of them, 98 OCs were reassigned in 13 districts under Dhaka Range; 111 OCs in 11 districts of Chattogram Range; 64 OCs in 10 districts under Khulna Range; 36 OCs in 4 districts under Mymensingh Range; 46 OCs in 6 districts under Barishal Range; 39 OCs in 4 districts under Sylhet Range, 71 OCs in 8 districts under Rajshahi Range; 62 OCs in 8 districts under Rangpur Range.
Officials said the shuffle reflects routine pre-election precautions designed to ensure a politically neutral policing environment and reinforce law-and-order readiness ahead of the polls.
