Police have seized 5,000 litres of illegally stockpiled diesel and detained one individual during a raid in Meherpur Sadar upazila.
The detainee, Abu Sufian, 40, proprietor of Farabi Traders and son of Surat Ali, was held during the operation in Dakshin Shalika village.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from Meherpur Sadar Police Station conducted the operation at Sufian’s residence in Buripota Union at approximately 2:30 am on Wednesday. During the drive, law enforcers recovered the fuel, which was found stored in 27 barrels.
The detainee failed to produce any valid documents for storing the fuel, said Meherpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Humayun Kabir.
The seized diesel has been confiscated and legal steps are being prepared against him over illegal hoarding.
Police warned that similar drives against illegal fuel trade and stockpiling will continue.
