Two people were killed and a child was critically injured after a speeding private car rammed a motorcycle in the Erulia area of Bogura.
The deceased were identified as Bablu and his wife, Jesmin.
Officer-in-Charge of Bogura Sadar Police Station Ibrahim Ali said Bablu was travelling towards Naogaon on his motorcycle with his wife and grandson while carrying packets of sweets.
A speeding private car travelling in the same direction lost control and rammed into the motorcycle, leaving Bablu dead on the spot.
Jesmin and their grandson were taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in critical condition. Doctors declared Jesmin dead upon arrival, while the child remains under treatment.
Police later seized the private car involved in the crash, but its driver fled the scene, the OC said.
Earlier in the morning, seven people were killed after a bus lost control and crashed in the same Erulia area.
The incident added to a grim day on the country’s roads, as nine more people were killed in a separate head-on collision between two passenger buses in Osmaninagar, Sylhet.
