Two friends were killed in a road accident in Dinajpur on Saturday evening.
The deceased were identified as Jabir Khaled, 18, only son of eye surgeon Ashraf Khaled Sagar of BNSB Eye Hospital in Chirirbandar, and Riyad Hossain, son of Dulal Hossain of Baikunthapur Shahapara under Tetulia union in the same upazila.
Both were Class XI students at Amena Baki Model Residential School and College in Chirirbandar.
Police and family sources said the accident occurred at Garodanga Bridge near Champatali in Fatehjangpur union, adjacent to Dashmile Highway Police Station on the Dinajpur–Rangpur highway, when a motorcycle collided with a private car. Both riders were injured.
They were first taken to Syedpur and later transferred to Doctors Hospital in Rangpur, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
Family members said Jabir had fulfilled his dream of owning a motorcycle, gifted by his father on 22 May last year.
They were reportedly heading to Syedpur to enjoy the Eid-ul-Adha holiday atmosphere when the accident occurred.
Dashmile Highway Police Station Officer-in-charge (OC) Nirmal Chandra Mohanta said car driver Fatik Roy Sumon, 22, was detained and the vehicle was seized before being handed over to Chirirbandar Police Station.
Chirirbandar Police Station OC Mahmudun Nabi said a case was filed around midnight.
