A large quantity of gold bars was recovered in a joint operation from Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG‑148 at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
Around 10:30am Thursday, officials raided the aircraft’s cargo hold and initially seized 160 gold bars.
The total weight of the recovered gold is about 19kg, with an estimated market value of roughly Tk45 crore, according to relevant sources.
The operation was conducted by a joint team comprising intelligence agencies, the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate, and customs authorities.
Authorities have not formally confirmed whether anyone was detained in connection with the incident.
Investigations are underway to determine the source of the gold, how it was placed in the cargo hold, and to identify those involved.
