Measles infections are rising at an alarming rate across the country, with 11 deaths reported in the 24 hours leading up to 8am on 7 April.
According to a bulletin from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Integrated Control Centre, ten of the deceased were suspected cases, while one death was laboratory-confirmed.
During this 24-hour period, 1,236 new suspected measles cases were identified. Since 15 March, 2026, the country has recorded a total of 128 suspected deaths, while the number of laboratory-confirmed fatalities stands at 21.
Case statistics and regional impact
The total number of suspected patients since March 15 has reached 9,883, with 1,398 cases confirmed through laboratory testing.
Dhaka Division remains the hardest-hit region, recording 499 new infections and eight deaths within the last 24 hours. Other significant daily case counts include 225 in Rajshahi Division and 175 in Chattogram Division.
Additionally, one death each was recorded in the Rajshahi, Rangpur, and Sylhet divisions.
Hospitalisations and recoveries
A total of 641 patients were newly admitted to various hospitals with measles symptoms. During the same 24-hour window, 585 patients were discharged following recovery, bringing the total number of recoveries to 4,635.
District-wise analysis reveals that the death rate is highest in Dhaka district. The DGHS stated that it is working intensively to control the situation and has advised the general public to remain vigilant.
