At least one person has been killed and 15 others injured in a collision between a passenger bus and a broken-down truck on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Nimtali, Sirajdikhan upazila, Munshiganj.
The deceased has been identified as Tarek (45), a supervisor of the bus.
On Friday morning , a bus from Purbasha Paribahan, coming from Chuadanga, crashed into a stationary broken-down truck in the Dhaka-bound lane. The impact killed one passenger on the spot. Several others were injured and trapped inside the bus.
Muhammad Shafiqur Islam, Assistant Director of Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defence, said that upon receiving the news, three units from the Sirajdikhan and Shrinagar fire stations rushed to the scene and began the rescue operation.
The 15 injured passengers were rescued and sent to various hospitals, while the body of the deceased was handed over to the highway police.
The Fire Service reported that traffic was disrupted for nearly half an hour after the accident. However, traffic resumed normally after the vehicles involved were removed. The highway police are taking legal action regarding the incident.
