Actress Zakia Bari Mamo has expressed frustration over the growing number of reports of violence, conflict and hatred appearing on social media.
Mamo, who often uses Facebook to share her thoughts on contemporary issues beyond her acting career, wrote on Monday, “When I enter social media, it feels like I’m watching Crime Patrol.”
Speaking about the post, Mamo said she had become upset after repeatedly coming across reports of fights, violence and hatred online.
“When I enter social media, I see one incident after another—fighting, violence, hatred, everything is happening. Seeing all this made me feel bad. That is what prompted me to write the post,” she said.
Her reference to Crime Patrol, a popular crime series built around criminal cases and their backstories, was meant as a metaphor for the constant stream of crime and violence appearing on social media.
Mamo also said she considers herself an ordinary person who, like many other professionals and members of the public, is simply trying to get through life.
“I’m like many other professionals and ordinary people who are just trying to live their lives. When I enter social media, I see one incident after another—fighting, violence, hatred,” she said.
She added that although she feels deeply affected by such incidents, she has little power to change them.
“I’m just an ordinary person. People write about so much pain and suffering on Facebook. I simply left my feelings there,” she said.
