The Chuadanga district branch of ‘Volunteer for Bangladesh’ organised an exceptional environmental awareness programme on Friday to mark ‘Global Climate Strike 2026’. The event was held at the city’s Shahid Hasan Chattar.
Under the slogan “Give one plastic, take one tree as a gift,” the organisers collected harmful plastic waste found lying by the roadside from pedestrians. In exchange, various species of tree saplings were distributed among the participants.
Masud Parvez Russell, Member of Parliament for Chuadanga-1 constituency, attended the event as the chief guest.
In his address, the chief guest stated, “Government initiatives alone are not enough to protect the environment; the youth must also step forward. Plastic pollution is currently a major global crisis. Such initiatives will play a crucial role in making people aware”.
He further added that the habit of planting trees and reducing plastic waste would help ensure a safe environment for future generations.
The organisation’s district branch President Masud Mridha presided over the function. He remarked, “Our goal is not merely to collect plastic, but to create a sense of responsibility among people regarding environmental protection. Big changes are possible through small initiatives”.
He also noted that the movement for environmental protection would become stronger with increased participation from the youth.
The event was attended by the organisation’s Vice President Mahin Billah, General Secretary Nusrat Jahan Roja, Human Resource Officer Shahriyar Rafin, Treasurer Yusuf Al Safin, Public Relation Officer Mezbaur Rahman, Project Officer Sadik Bin Rahman, and members Nowrin Masum Rimi, Nusrat Jahan Mouly, Tamim Salam, and Taslim Mahmud.
Fahim Uddin Movin, the former president of the organisation, was also present.
The organisers stated that such awareness programmes would continue in the future to ensure environmental protection and to combat the adverse effects of climate change.
