The High Court has dismissed a writ petition that challenged legality of activities of the interim government led by former chief adviser Muhammad Yunus.
A High Court bench comprising Justice Ahmed Sohel and Justice Fatema Anwar passed the order on Thursday. Earlier on 17 May, the court set the date (21 May) after a hearing.
Lawyers MK Rahman and Mohsin Rashid appeared for the petitioners, while Attorney General Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal represented the state.
MK Rahman told reporters that the petition sought an investigation into the 18 months of activities under Yunus-led interim government. He said the government had created chaos in all sectors of the country, including the economy and health.
He argued that under the Commission of Inquiry Act, a commission should be formed to ensure that no elected government could be overthrown in the future.
Supreme Court lawyer Mohsin Rashid filed the petition on 3 May. The cabinet secretary and two secretaries of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs were made respondents.
Earlier, the same lawyer had filed another writ petition challenging the oath and formation process of the interim government. That petition was dismissed by a High Court bench, and when he appealed to the Appellate Division, the appeal was also rejected.
