Vaibhav Suryavanshi made history on Friday in Doha by scoring 144 from 42 balls on his India-A debut against the United Arab Emirates in a Rising Asia Cup 2025 match at the West End International Stadium. The 14-year-old opener, playing alongside Priyansh Arya under captain Jitesh Sharma, struck 11 boundaries and 14 sixes in a knock that immediately entered the record books.
The innings is the joint-second fastest T20 century by an Indian alongside Rishabh Pant, behind only Urvil Patel and Abhishek Sharma, who both reached the milestone in 28 balls. Globally, Vaibhav’s century ranks as the sixth quickest in T20 history.
This marked Vaibhav’s second T20 century of his career, following a 35-ball ton for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans in the 2025 IPL at Jaipur. He is now the first player to score two T20 centuries in 35 balls or fewer. He also became the youngest player to score two T20 centuries, breaking the previous record held by France Gustav McKeon, while surpassing Unmukt Chand among Indian players. At 14 years and 232 days, Vaibhav also broke McKeon’s record for the youngest to hit a T20 century for a national representative side.
Vaibhav scored 134 runs in boundaries alone, making him the joint-fourth highest boundary scorer in a T20 innings alongside Finn Allen, and the most by an Indian. Only Chris Gayle (154), Hazratullah Zazai (140), and Graham Napier (136) have recorded more boundary runs in a T20 innings. His 14 sixes also rank second on the Indian list, behind Punit Bisht’s 17 for Meghalaya against Mizoram.
Suryavanshi’s record-breaking debut has established him as one of the brightest young talents in world cricket, setting the stage for what could be a remarkable career.
