India and Zanzibar’s women’s Kabaddi teams arrived in Dhaka on Wednesday to take part in the second Women’s Kabaddi World Cup, which begins on November 17 and will conclude with the final on November 24. The tournament, organised by the Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation, will be held at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur, with preparations prioritising player safety, accommodation, transport and venue management.
The second edition of the women’s World Cup comes 13 years after the inaugural tournament, which was held in Patna, India, in 2012. In that first edition, Bangladesh were eliminated in the quarter-finals by Japan, while India won the title with Iran finishing as runners-up.
In preparation for this year’s tournament, the Bangladesh women’s team recently completed a five-match test series in Nepal. Back home, they are continuing their training at the BKSP under the guidance of coaches Shahnaz Parveen Maleka and Arduzzaman Munsi.
The return of the women’s World Cup has created a festive atmosphere among local sports fans, who are eagerly anticipating the international event.
