Bangladeshi independent feature film Uraal – The Flying Souls has secured a place in the competition programme of the 14th Asian Film Festival Barcelona, with a screening scheduled for 1 November at Cinemes Girona Sala 2.
Directed by Jobaidur Rahman and produced by Sharif Siraj, the film was released in August 2025. Theatre director and academic Samrat Pramanik wrote the story, which follows three childhood friends, Moti, Bachchu and Ronju, whose small-town lives revolve around bicycles, railway tracks and local cinema halls.
Their lives take a tragic turn when Kumkum, the daughter of a prominent merchant, briefly catches Bachchu’s attention before mysteriously disappearing.
Organised by Casa Asia, the festival runs from 22 October to 1 November 2026 across Barcelona venues, including Cinemes Girona and CaixaForum Barcelona. It showcases more than 100 films from over 20 countries, exploring identity, gender, sustainability and human resilience.
Before Barcelona, Uraal screened at the Dhaka International Film Festival, Rainbow International Film Festival and Zabaikalskiy International Film Festival.
