Golam Rabbani’s short film ‘Untongue’ has won the Honourable Mention Award at the 6th Bogura International Film Festival (BIFF).
The award was announced on the final day of the three-day festival, with the director present to receive the honour.
Speaking after the award ceremony, Rabbani said, “Hosting an international film festival in Bogura is a remarkable achievement. I watched several films made at the district and upazila levels around Bogura, which is very encouraging.”
“If such festivals are organised regularly across the country, they can help create new filmmakers, audiences and exhibition platforms. Cinema also has strong potential to contribute to local business,” he said.
Golam Rabbani has already earned recognition both at home and abroad for his work. His debut film Churat won the Special Mention Award in the Spiritual Film category at the 22nd Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF).
In addition, ‘Untongue’ previously received the Honourable Mention Award at both the Venice Interculture Film Festival and the Budapest Film Festival. His latest co-production, Nishi, won the Emma Award, often referred to as the “Green Oscar.”
This marks the first time a Bangladeshi film has received the prestigious accolade.
Earlier this year, Rabbani was also awarded a one-year scholarship from the Sundance Institute to further develop his filmmaking skills.
