Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain were held to a 1-1 draw by Manchester United in Gothenburg on Saturday as both sides continued their preparations for the new season.
PSG made the faster start and needed only two minutes to take the lead. Ibrahim Mbaye finished a quick attacking move before United had settled into the contest.
Manchester United responded well to the early setback and gradually took control of possession.
Their pressure produced an equaliser in the 32nd minute. Amad Diallo created the opening before Bryan Mbeumo finished to make it 1-1.
The Cameroon international continues to impress during pre-season. He scored twice against Atletico Madrid last weekend and now has another goal against the reigning European champions.
Mbeumo has quickly become one of United’s most dangerous attacking options under Michael Carrick. His ability to operate centrally or from the right gives the manager another route in attack.
United still have more attacking options to return, with Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko unavailable for the PSG game.
The match also marked Youri Tielemans’ first appearance for United. The Belgium international came on during the second half after receiving additional time to recover from his World Cup campaign.
Tielemans gives Carrick another experienced midfield option alongside Andrey Santos and Bruno Fernandes.
However, United suffered another injury concern when Mason Mount left the pitch after around 20 minutes. Tyler Fletcher replaced him.
Goalkeeper Tom Heaton also failed to complete the match after picking up an injury following the interval.
Carrick made several changes during the second half and gave younger players valuable minutes against a PSG side that also introduced senior players including Marquinhos, Vitinha and João Neves.
Neither team found a winner despite opportunities at both ends.
The draw keeps United unbeaten during pre-season and gives Carrick another useful test against elite opposition.
