Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the abduction, gang rape, and mobile phone filming of a schoolgirl in Maheshpur, Jhenaidah.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Md Hazrat Ali, 22, son of Md Hafizur Rahman of Bagdia Ait village, and Aser Ali alias Raju, 18, son of Anwar Hossain of Samanta Charatala Para. The victim’s aunt has filed a case at Maheshpur Police Station naming four individuals.
The other accused in the case are Md Shaon, 20, Nayan, 23, and Amin, 21.
According to the case statement and police sources, the incident occurred at approximately 8pm on 26 March.
The victim had gone to meet her friend, Aser Ali, on a paved road near her home. At that time, Hazrat Ali and Shaon allegedly assaulted the friend and forcibly took the girl to a nearby grass field, where Nayan and Amin were already waiting.
Hazrat, Shaon, and Nayan then reportedly took turns raping the girl while Amin recorded the incident on a mobile phone. The perpetrators threatened to leak the video on the internet and kill the victim if the matter was disclosed.
The victim informed her aunt of the ordeal the following morning. When the aunt confronted the accused, they reportedly threatened her with death as well. The victim said she initially refrained from telling her parents out of fear that it would jeopardise her future marriage prospects.
However, the incident became public knowledge after the perpetrators began showing the video to various people. There were also reports of local pressure and stalling tactics used by the accused to settle the matter through informal mediation.
Maheshpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mehedi Hasan of confirmed that the case was recorded after a preliminary investigation found the allegations to be true.
“The victim is being sent to the hospital for a medical examination,” the OC said. He added that two of the accused have already been sent to court, and police operations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.
