A traditional horse race, reflecting the rural heritage of Bengal, was held on Tuesday afternoon at Balidah Kanaikuri Beel in Magura Union under Tala Upazila, Satkhira.
The competition was organised by the combined committee of Balidah, Chandkati, Raghunathpur, and Bagmara. The Administrator of Satkhira Zila Parishad, BNP Central Publication Affairs Secretary and a former member of parliament Habibul Islam Habib attended the event as the chief guest.
Presided over by Shahnewaz Biswas and moderated by Master Oliar Rahman, the programme featured several special guests, including former Tala Upazila BNP President Mrinal Kanti Roy, former General Secretary Sheikh Shafiqul Islam, and Magura Union BNP President Sheikh Aminul Islam.
Other notable attendees included, Upazila Chhatra Dal Member Secretary SK Faruk Hossain, local UP Member Faruk Hossain; and Mohila Dal General Secretary Shirina Khatun alongside other local dignitaries.
The event drew thousands of spectators from both local and distant areas, who gathered to witness the intense competition. A total of 9 teams from various regions participated in the race.
The “Bhorer Pakhi” team from the Koyra area of Khulna district secured the first position. Following the conclusion of the competition, the chief guest distributed a cash prize of Tk15,000 to the winning team.
