Three police officers and an alleged drug dealer were injured in a gunfight with armed suspects during an anti-drug operation in Narayanganj’s Fatullah on Saturday.
The incident took place around noon in the Isdair Rail Line area, police said.
The injured police personnel were Sub-Inspectors (unarmed) Md Rafiq and Nandan Chandra Sarker, and Constable Rashidul. The other injured person was Jasim, 24, son of Rezzak of Isdair.
Police also arrested Jasim and Mohon, 23, son of Abdus Salam of the same area, following the incident.
According to police, a team was conducting a routine anti-crime operation in Isdair when seven to eight armed men opened fire on them.
The officers returned fire in self-defence, leaving Jasim injured, police said.
A search of the area led to the recovery of a foreign-made pistol and a magazine, while Jasim and Mohon were arrested.
The injured were taken to Narayanganj 300-Bed Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
Fatullah Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Mahbub Alam said the suspects opened fire on police during the operation, but none of the officers was hit by the gunfire.
“Police returned fire in self-defence, leaving a suspected drug dealer injured,” he said.
Police are continuing operations to arrest others allegedly involved in the incident, the OC added.
