Three Afghan cricketers died in Pakistan’s airstrikes on Kandahar’s Spin Boldak district. The strikes hit homes and killed 40 people. Many women and children were among the victims.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board condemned the attack. It also pulled out of the upcoming Tri-Nation T20I Series that included Pakistan.
Tolo News said the airstrikes began earlier in the week. They targeted residential areas in Spin Boldak.
The ACB said the three cricketers, Kabeer, Sibghatullah, and Haroon, were from the Urgun district in Paktika province.
“They were targeted in a cowardly attack by the Pakistani regime,” the board said.
The players had gone to Sharana to play a friendly match. They returned home to Urgun. Soon after, the airstrike hit their gathering.
The attack also killed five others from the same district. Seven people suffered injuries.
The ACB said Afghan cricket lost three of its own. It urged the global community to respond to the tragedy.
