A 33-year-old tea seller, Ismail Hossain, was stabbed to death by robbers in the Kotwali area of Chattogram city.
The incident occurred around 2am on Thursday near the District Council Market. Ismail, a resident of Laxmipur Sadar Upazila, worked as a mobile tea vendor in Chattogram and lived in the Firingi Bazar area.
According to police, Ismail was cycling towards Firingi Bazar when three robbers blocked his path near the Kotwali road opposite the District Council building. They stabbed him in the chest before fleeing the scene.
Patrolling officers found him lying in a pool of blood. Constable Mahmud Hossain of Kotwali Police Station said they immediately rushed him to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), where doctors declared him dead.
Sohel Rana, assistant in-charge of CMCH police outpost, confirmed stab wounds on Ismail’s chest and hands.
Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Police Station, Abdul Karim, said the robbers fled the scene and no one has been arrested yet. An operation is underway to uncover the murder and apprehend those involved. Ismail’s body has been taken to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem.
