Taylor Swift has praised Phoebe Bridgers’ new album Lost Weekend, calling the singer-songwriter’s long-awaited return “a gift” and “an absolute triumph”.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Swift shared the message on her Instagram Story on Monday while wishing Bridgers a happy birthday, alongside the artwork for Lost Weekend.

“It’s her birthday but she gave us a gift,” Swift wrote. “Haven’t been able to stop listening. This album is an absolute triumph in every way.”

Praising Bridgers’ songwriting, Swift added that she admired the way the album explores grief with vulnerability and honesty.

Bridgers released Lost Weekend last Friday, marking her first solo album in six years following 2020’s acclaimed Punisher.

The indie singer-songwriter is set to take the new album on tour this autumn. Her phones-free arena tour will begin in September in Indianapolis.

Swift and Bridgers have been friends and collaborators for several years. Bridgers featured on Swift’s Red (Taylor’s Version) track Nothing New and later joined Swift as an opening act during the 2023 Eras Tour, performing across nine dates.

Although Lost Weekend marks Bridgers’ first solo release since 2020, she has remained active in music.

She formed the supergroup Boygenius with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus, whose 2023 album The Record became a major critical and commercial success.

The album won the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album, while Not Strong Enough earned Grammys for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song.

Bridgers is also expanding beyond music, with her acting debut in A24’s upcoming Primetime, which is scheduled to premiere next month.

For now, Lost Weekend has earned a particularly enthusiastic endorsement from one of pop’s biggest stars, with Swift encouraging her millions of followers to listen to Bridgers’ latest work.
