West Indies finished strongly to post 165 for 3 after adding 20 runs in the final over of the first T20I against Bangladesh on 27 October in Chattogram.
Taskin Ahmed impressed with a fiery spell, but captain Shai Hope’s fluent innings helped the visitors build a fighting score.
After winning the toss at the Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium, Hope opted to bat first. Openers Alick Athanaze and Brandon King made a steady start, guiding West Indies to 35 without loss in the powerplay. Their 59-run stand ended when Rishad Hossain bowled Athanaze for 34 off 27 balls.
Hope joined King at the crease and began carefully, allowing the innings to stabilise. Taskin then turned the game momentarily in Bangladesh’s favour, removing King for 33 and Sherfane Rutherford for a golden duck off consecutive balls, narrowly missing out on a hat-trick.
Rovman Powell came in to partner his skipper, initially taking his time before cutting loose towards the end. Hope’s aggressive stroke play kept the scoreboard ticking, while Powell found his range late on, launching three sixes in the final over.
By the end of their 20 overs, West Indies had reached a competitive total of 165 for 3. Hope remained unbeaten on 46 from 28 balls, while Powell finished on 44 not out from 28.
For Bangladesh, Taskin Ahmed was the standout bowler with 2 for 29, while Rishad Hossain took 1 for 26.
